You want to know the kicker? $900. No more, no less, that's what I've paid in total this year on my PC, including the case which I recently ordered. I shop online from these two sites:

Buy Computer Parts, Computer Hardware, PC Parts at Best Online Computer Shop - DirectCanada
NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection. (both Canadian and American)

The most expensive piece was the motherboard because I didn't wait for it to go on sale. I bought the Q6600 (on sale for $200) but didn't know if my current board was compatible with the quads so I bought the MB before even trying.

The Galaxy Geforce was on sale for $160 (with a $40 mail in rebate), down from $242 (Galaxy GeForce 8800GT Overclocked 600MHZ 512MB 2.0GHZ DDR3 PCI-E DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out OEM Video Card - DirectCanada).

Don't by a Dell or one of those pre-made computers. Just shop online, buying parts when they're on sale. It's rewarding to say the least.

Mm, we had my current PC built when we got it... It was actually of a pretty high standard then. Its just that that was several years ago
