Checkpoints

I have just found out..there will be checkpoints for respwaning...I personally hate the idea, becuase it takes the survival out of the game. For instance, I like dead rising, because once you've killed a pyscho or something, you must find your way back to a save point otherwise, when you die, you lose everything you just did.

What do you think about this?

BTW, I prefered the site how it was with the whole dark, horrific theme, but I suppose my opinion doesn't matter.

I personally don't mind that there will be check points. There are checkpoints in all games these days (90%) and they're important for making a game challenging. as this is only four max survivors, losing one is probably going to cause a world of pain. hat you can "rescue" a dead comrade is good.

Its more in the game for the fact that each round will be rather long and Valve don't want a dead player to have to sit inactive for long periods of time as this would bore them.

I believe the checkpoints are fairly sparse and how far you are in the level goes towards determining where you will respawn.

Personally, I think it's great

No, what I mean is, that if your entire team dies, for instance, at a big finale against tanks etc, you merely restart the finale. I think you should have to restart the complete level.

If you all die, then you lose.

That would really put people off playing this. Save points are integral to the enjoyment of a game, sure it takes some of the edge off it by allowing mistakes to be made and not punished too much, but without them people would be put off and would not buy what will be a great game.

Well, this is what I've heard and I'm quoting from the homepage of left4dead411.com:

Out of all of this, something that caught the eye of some community members was the following from GameSpot's Updated Hands-On:

Thankfully, you're given the ability to restart from the most recent checkpoint, but all the emotion you put into surviving still makes it quite a downer when you fail to do so.

For all of you that were disappointed by BioShock's respawn system that really negated any disadvantages or fear of dying, its influence has now spread to Left 4 Dead. You will no longer go back to the very beginning of a scenario after your team gets wiped out at the finale, you will be able to start right back up at the start of the finale. This is GREAT news for those that didn't want beating a scenario to be an accomplishment. For the rest of us, thanks Valve.

I suppose thinking about it a little bit, if the ENTIRE team dies, then there should be some penalty. I guess it depends upon the size of the levels and just how far back you are forced to go.

Well think about it like this; if YOU want to restart the whole level; no-one is stopping you.

You can easily restart the round if you don't like the checkpoints...

haha...I don't think that'd be quite the same. It's not that I WANT to restart the round, but I kinda takes the 'need' to survive if you respawn 100 yards back anyway.

Well, I know that I don't want to get through 99% of the scenario only to have to play it all again when some idiot got the whole team killed...

Its just easier that way; you can always give yourself that 'need' to survive by just saying "OK, well if I die I'm not respawning, I'll start again" nothing's stopping you

Hows about a compromise?

If the whole team dies the you restart a whole level behind?
Not the same level but the one you just finished before it, BUT with Director it'll be a new way to play.

I think kinda with tht, itll be like ur being punished rather than not achieving sumet, but i quite like the idea to be harsh to random players. MWAHAHAHA!!

random players? but won't every game technically be filled with random players? or do you mean noobs? If so why punish them, they don't know better. If you can call yourself pro then you, as a player, can make up for having fresh players on your team.

It will be another way to encourage team work to say at least ONE person must make it though to continue.
