Chainsaw in a zombie attack.

The contraversal question on every Zday theorists mind...
Would a chainsaw be a good weapon in a zombie apocolypse?

Answer: No.

Weight- A chainsaw weighs alot and is hard to carry around.
Mess- Killing a zombie with a chainsaw would leave infacted blood all over you and your chainsaw.
Ammo- Thats right, the only melee weapon that needs something to run it. If you run out of fuel your chainsaw is rendered useless.

I personally would prefer a knife than a chainsaw as a melee weapon.

i agree...it would be an ok for a quick mess...if you had to use it.

I still find it funny how on left for dead, you shoot a zombie close up and you see blood all over your screen...

Since it's on the screen in theory it should be in the players eyes?!

They appear to be immune from it :P

Well, I use the 28 Days Later example because the zombies seem exactly the same on l4d, they aren't slow zombies like resident evil...

Some of the conversation you can hear the Survivors say once in a while does in fact relate to their being immune to being Infected.

Since we have no "official" word from Valve yet, I think it's fair to say that they are immune to infection in that manner at least. They regularily get drenched in blood from Infected, vomited on by Boomers, clawed by Hunters and that nasty tongue'd by Smokers.

If they weren't immune, they'd probably have it by now

Kinda like that "I am Legend" film, where Will Smith is immune to the virus, maybe the survivors are some of the genetically immune from the disease.

TBH, it's not an uncommon concept.

Kind of like in Stephen King's "The Stand" we have the two opposing sides of people immune to the Superflu / Captain Trips.

The only close quarter weapon i want is 2 katan's on my back. Other weapons: dual pistols, and a semi automatic rifle and im straight

People always seem to forget about fatigue when dreaming about Z-day. I doubt most people could go for any length of time swinging a Axe at zombies. A chainsaw you can forget it. Katan tho cool would not be practical because of its weight and the fact that a persons back muscles wouldn't hold up to it. So unless you do manual labour on a farm with axe's sledge hammers and so on your body wont take the beating.

Even shotguns most average people have never even shot one they would probably dislocate their shoulder after the first shot.

Dual pistols is a dream as well your accuracy should suffer extremely

ware would you find all this? i say baseball bat because there every ware and unless you already have guns/fid card then getting fire arms would be difficult so i say go with the blunt everyday weapons

Well the things with chainsaws, is that ppl have flesh and bone density and that would take quite a while to cut through. Id stick with a baseball bat with nails sticking out myself. Not very heavy and a powerful shot when it hits.

/CPH\: The things not really practical with a bat with nails through it:

1) Those nails are going to get stuck in some Infected / Zombie. What are you going to do against a Horde of 'em when your bat is stuck in the first one?

How close are you to your local gun store? Most people dont have guns lying around and mass amounts of ammo to go with it. Assuming we are talking about the very start of z-day and you at home/work minding your own business with no chance to plan for it.

1) Those nails are going to get stuck in some Infected / Zombie. What are you going to do against a Horde of 'em when your bat is stuck in the first one?

Your dead anyway if you get into melee range with a horde of z's coming at you.

2) Nails through it means you plan to use a wooden bat, which is eventually going to break

Just remove the saftey off the nail gun and you that instead imo

Blunt weapons shouldn't get stuck in a zombie so your average joe would be able to wield those better then a bladed one.

Well we're talking about a baseball bat with nails in it, so that'd mean that it isn't a blunt weapon anymore, as such.

Rather more like a flail / morning-star.

Also, I live like 5-10 minutes walking from a police station

so relatively close to guns. I know it's a long shot, but then, there are actual swords in my house (Old-ass ones, and in need of a sharpening stone :P)

Though, most shotguns really aren't that hard to fire, and unless your stupid enough to either hold the shotty in front of your face or at your waste, then you should be fine. Yes katana's do way a lot and if you needed to run with them and fight with them, they'd weigh you down to much.
