Well the nails in baseball bat was my idea, and it would be pretty effective for a few zombies. But heck, if its a horde your screwed anyway so it doesnt really matter. Although, i suppose a aluminium and wooden baseball bat with nail would be a good combo.

i dont get the nail thing cause its really not gonna help its gonna get stuck your better of with a normal bat cause say if a horde is around then just spin in a circul and they will all be nocked back or if its just a single zombie then hit it in the head till it stops moving

I'm of the camp of small, stiletto style weapons, like an ice pick or any kind of improvised shiv. If we're talking Romero zombies, it's a quick, effective way of putting them down (all you have to do is touch the brain, it seems, and a Romero zombie plops over). If we're talking infected, it still does good work -- simply stab them in the head a couple of times with it, and they're sure to go down.
I'd say a stiletto-style weapon is optimal, because they're small, lightweight, and unlikely to hook or snag on viscera or bone on the way out. You also don't need much room to wield such a weapon, so if you're surrounded, or pinned to the ground by one or several of the buggers, you can dispatch them quickly and (relatively) easily. There is the problem of having to be quite close to them in order to use this kind of weapon, so I recommend it as a weapon of last resort, or when you have the drop on a few zombies you need out of the way, silently. As a student of human osteology, I'd recommend the temporal region of head -- on the side of the head, right around the ear -- it's the thinnest bone on the skull. Avoid the front and back of the skull, particularly the back, as they are quite thick. If you've got a gun or some other projectile weapon, and we're dealing with L4D-style infected, try to aim your shots so you hit them around the base of the brain, as this is where most of the autonomic nervous functions take place (i.e. breathing, movement, etc.), and they'll go down without a fuss, unlike if they were shot in the frontal lobe (possibly no effect) or the temporal lobe (possibly screwing up their sensory functions). However, any kind of head shot would be best in a controlled situation. A Japanese katana, particularly those made before WWII, would be pretty damn good as well, as it doesn't take much skill to wield, but they are extremely sharp and could easily cut a head off pretty quickly, killing (or at least incapacitating, dependent on the type of zombie) the enemy. However, it could get stuck in bone, leaving you defenseless, so using this does pose a risk. Let me paraphrase Monty Python's Holy Grail and adapt it to this situation: "Chainsaws are right out!" They're noisy, heavy, rely on gas, messy, difficult to wield (I've done my share), and in so many more ways the poorest choice you could make in weaponry. Stick to the shiv, my friends, it won't let you down. |
