Hello all.

This is for the PC version of L4D

I played the demo for about 20 hours or so without any issues whatsoever. I preloaded and played for 5 hours on release night without an issue. Today after the small update i got when i started up l4d, i can not stay connected to any server for longer than 1 minute. Every time i play the game i get the error "Client timed out" This would suggest it is on my end, but i have no reasonable explanation for any of it. It worked just fine on release until they added that small update. Any ideas?

I am having this exact same problem. Demo was fine. Live was fine until today.

It's really ticking me off as I get disconnected within 1 minute, regardless of which server I play on and how good my latency is.

I have searched high and low in the depths of the internets trying to find an answer to this problem. The only thing that turned up was within developers forums. Mappers trying to launch from hammer had issues like this that were easily fixed with an sv command. Nothing on my side though.

Well I think it's fixed now *touch wood*.

I deleted the ClientRegistry.blob file in my steam folder and reinstalled L4D.

Playing for an hour now with no disconnects =D

got 3 hours of play in before this f*&@ing error came up again.

Same problem. Can't stay in a game longer than a minute or so. Didn't happen with the demo or anything. An answer to this problem would be nice considering a lot of people are having trouble with it. Thanks.

I ran the "verify steam cache files or whatever" tool and played the game for a few hours. then stopped. then went back the next day and it doesnt work again.

I'm experiencing a similar thing. However, 1 minute seems rather generous in my case, as I cannot maintain a connection for any longer than 10 seconds into playing the game.

I forwarded the issue to Valve yesterday. Hopefully their support crew can help out some..

Hello,

Try entering the following using the developer console ingame.

If you don't have the developer console enabled you will need to enable it, you can do this by going into your Options > Keyboard settings.

Once you've done that press ` and type the following commands:

rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 101
cl_updaterate 101

Are you using a wireless internet connection? Does your computer have a firewall?

Have you tried disabling applications on your computer to see if that is affecting your internet connection.

The official forum for Left 4 Dead is the Steam Powered User's Forum. You can access it either from The Steampowered Community or from The Official Left 4 Dead site.

We merely try to cater to the users that want a place to exclusively (apart from the Offtopic / Games forum, you wiseguys ) discuss Left 4 Dead.

Hopefully, we can make this one of the best sources for custom L4D content, as well as discussions / strategies, or help in this case.

I'm sorry your problem hasn't been resolved yet, but rest assured that as soon as someone knows how to fix it, you'll probably be told (in this thread, ofc).

I take it your running the game through Steam? I decided a day or two ago to run the L4D .exe directly, and this error occurred in the 3 games I joined, very quickly.

So, you are running the game through Steam, right?

I would try just open up console and mess up with rates like in css (counter strike source)

Well, i think i sorted the issue out on my end at least. Tried playing on two different servers and had no problems.. which is a good sign.

Just had to configure port forwarding with my router.

I have found that opening it though steam fixes the error for me
