I am Legend [book]

Last night I started reading I am Legend (after finishing the book I was reading, Wonderland Avenue, a fantastic read, more of that later). It's certainly a lot more involved (naturally, it's an entirely different medium) than the recent movie of the same name and this version of Robert Neville seems to be much, much darker. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to this Robert Neville and his battle with the vampires.

I have yet to discover from the book how the entire population came to be vampires but I must admit my first thought is that it is not 'as realistic' as the Dark Seekers in the movie; not that any Zombie/Ghoul/Vampire myth is actually realistic.

Will keep you updated on what I think about the book as I progress. Only up to about chapter four by now.

Almost all myths are based upon the truth.

Well, it certainly is an incredibly dark tale. It's interesting that they are 'Vampires' in the book and it's interesting to see the link Neville makes between Vampires and Germs. There is no doubt that this character is a much darker character than the one Will Smith portrayed in the movie version. Gone is Bob Marley and Shrek. Instead we have hard liquor and the classics. I should have the book finished within the next week.

Hmm, the fact that he's portray as much darker would make the story a lot better IMO. The Neville played by Will Smith is far too upbeat for a man that has been alone for over three years in a 'zombie' infested city with no-one but a dog...

I'll have to get that book...

Even the dog is done differently in that it enhances the lonliness of the character rather than gives him a companion.

Only read this is if you want to know what happens in the book regarding Neville's dog.
Spoiler:
In the book the dog is a stray that Neville befriends over a period of weeks. The dog learns to trust him, eventually, but falls ill and dies within a week of starting to live with Neville. Like I said, it's dark.

That is much better than the Sam portrayed in the movie.

I couldn't not read it... Spoilers are like magnets to me

mmm

I personally Loved the Movie, and read the book about a month ago. Robert Neville Seems a lot more Human in the Novel and his situation more desperate.
My only gripe about the book is that its too short! A great addictive read.
