There does need to be a good director, someone who does things like that really well. The resident evil films were good but they weren't brilliant, you need a good director to really sum it up well. usually i'd go for Stephen Speilberg but since Indiana Jones 4 and what not i'm going against that idea.

Peter Jackson would be good, he's very good at creating films that he hasn't come up with. Imagine if the l4d film was bigger then LOTR
