L4D - Moddable? Mappable? Skinnable?

Hello, just a quick question about L4D, do you have any idea if there will be an SDK kit and hence, whether or not L4D will be modded, skinned & mapped etc ... or if it'll be one of those standard games with rarely any files aside from possibly couple of patches?

Being that L4D is built on the Source engine I think we will be able to use SDK to create enough mods and skins to last a lifetime.
The way it is going I would be incredibly dumbfounded if they didn't release an SDK kit with it.

Oh and by the way:
Welcome to the forums!

I read that we won't expect the SDK kit for this until 2009, BUT it is possible to use existing SDK kits to build mpas and then convert them to the new one (with new features etc) when it is released.

Welcome, Azz, it's been too long.

Sounds logical enough, pretty much as I thought but was wondering of any official confirmation, thanks for that! I figured being MP only might be less attractive to modders etc.. We'll see!

That's good news too, gonna see about incorporating a dedicated L4D section on HL2Files.com seeing as it's also on Source engine and VALVe produced.

Indeed it has been long mate! Finally back to the scene! I did want to have a quick talk with you on MSN but haven't seen you on lately (understandable - weekend etc..)..

Yeah, the weekend and everything else! You'd be surprised how much work goes into:
  • Being a parent
  • House hunting
  • Buying a new car
  • Running a house
  • Being a loving supportive boyfriend

I'm usually on for a couple of hours on an evening. Usually... was going to contact you, actually, regarding see if if you'll add us as an affiliate on HL2 files. Just never got around to it just yet. You beat me to it.

Indeed. I think this will attract a lot of mods. The source engine is good for modding (not that I've ever, ever, ever done any).

I actually found a way to map for Left 4 Dead and posted it on another forum, Facepunch, I can post the instructions if you like.

Check out my zombie story, if you wish.
